Can I add a multi day tour before or after my cruise call at Colombo?

Yes, and it is one of the most common things we arrange. Passengers disembarking at Colombo Port, or joining a ship there, add a 5 to 10-day circuit on either side. We collect you from the cruise terminal or Bandaranaike International Airport and return you to whichever you need, timed to your sailing or flight.

Are hotels included in the price?

No, and that is deliberate. We suggest hotels at your budget along the route and you book them directly, so you pay the hotel's own rate rather than a marked-up package price and you keep your own cancellation terms. Your driver-guide handles every transfer between them.

Day 1

Arrive Colombo — airport, hotel or cruise terminal

Your driver-guide meets you with a name board at Bandaranaike International (CMB), your Colombo hotel, or the cruise terminal gate. Transfer to Negombo, 30 minutes away, or into Colombo, about an hour. Nothing else is scheduled — most people have just flown a long way.

Day 2

Colombo → Pinnawala → Dambulla

North into the cultural triangle, stopping at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage. On to Dambulla for the 12th-century cave temples — five caves cut into the rock face, best visited late afternoon when the heat drops and the light comes in sideways.

Day 3

Sigiriya at dawn, Polonnaruwa after lunch

Up early for Sigiriya Lion Rock — the climb is 1,200 steps and you want to be on them before the sun is. Afternoon at Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital, which is flat, shaded and best seen by bicycle if you still have legs.

Day 4

Dambulla → Matale → Kandy

A working spice garden at Matale on the way south — cinnamon, cardamom, pepper vines. Into Kandy for the evening ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic at 18:30, then a Kandyan dance performance.

Day 5

Peradeniya gardens and Kandy

Morning at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya — 147 acres in a loop of the Mahaweli river. Afternoon free in Kandy: the lake, the covered market, the craft workshops. A deliberately slow day in the middle of the circuit.

Day 6

Kandy → Ella by train

The hill railway, and one of the reasons people come to Sri Lanka at all. Roughly seven hours through tea country with the doors open. Your driver takes the car by road and is waiting at Ella station when you arrive.

Day 7

Ella — Little Adam’s Peak and Nine Arches

An easy hour up Little Adam’s Peak before breakfast, then the Nine Arches Bridge — check the train times with your driver and watch one cross it. Afternoon in the hills, which at this altitude actually need a jumper.

Day 8

Ella → Yala National Park

Down out of the hills to the dry southern plain. Jeep safari from 14:30, about four hours — leopard, elephant, sloth bear, crocodile, peacock. Afternoon is the better half of the day for cats.

Day 9

Yala → the south coast and Galle

West along the coast to Mirissa and Galle. Between December and April you can add a dawn blue whale trip out of Mirissa. Late afternoon on the ramparts of Galle Fort, the 1848 lighthouse, and the streets inside the Dutch walls.

Day 10

Galle → Colombo, airport or ship

Ninety minutes back up the southern expressway. Depending on your departure: lunch and last shopping in Colombo, a transfer to CMB, or straight to the cruise terminal for embarkation.
